We believe that there is hope for the future even when the past is painful, that there is peace in the midst of the storm, and that all stories have value and purpose.
How has the war impacted your sense of value? "I had an established and healthy church and a home for my family. Then, we had to abandon it all and flee. I went from this (hands outstretched) expression of value and purpose - to this (hands describing small box)."
"In the midst of chaos, we need these reminders that our value and identity is from God and nothing can destroy it."
"Thanks for coming to Ukraine despite the war . . . We wait for your return."
Where words sometimes fail, visual expression speaks the emotions of the heart.
I explained the project to the women: a wall hanging that would preserve a treasured part of the life they were forced to leave behind . . . a creation to hang in their new homes that would become a way to share memories with family and friends . . . an image from their heart that need not be destroyed. When I finished the intro, I asked if there were any questions.
From one table - the response: "WHEN CAN WE START?"
God calls us to Himself through His creation. These families were grateful for the encouragement to "slow down" and take time to see God's beauty even when the world seems out of control.
The parents responded: "I felt a sense of peace when I entered the forest simply to breathe and enjoy God's presence."
The children discovered the ability to put their discoveries onto paper and enjoyed
the intentional time with family:
"Papa, we must do this every day."

Those coincidences that in fact are God-circumstances—they are wonderful! Over lunch with high school friends, Rhonda Sprunger said, “You need to connect with my good friend, Denisha.” That pronouncement introduced a relationship between two organizations and a group of women who strengthen each other and were destined to work together. Thank you, Rhonda!
Denisha Workizer (Founder and Director) and Nancy Nelson (Executive Assistant) of Reclaimed Story, (reclaimedstory.org) thank you for your companionship, personally and in ministry. You are an unexpected but much-longed-for gift from God. I value our like-mindedness and the way we nudge each other forward to new ideas and opportunities.
